New Zealand Petroleum Awards

To celebrate the success of New Zealand’s oil and gas industry, the Gala Dinner will feature the New Zealand Petroleum Conference Awards.

There are four award categories:

  • Award for Exceptional Health, Safety and Environmental Leadership
  • Award for Excellence in Community Partnership and Engagement
  • Award for Outstanding Innovation in Oil and Gas
  • Hall of Fame

Nominations are now open, and will close on 31 January 2018.

Nominations can be made by emailing conference@pepanz.com outlining why the initiative, project or individual deserves to be recognised by their peers, including how they meet the criteria below.

Award Criteria

Award for Exceptional Health, Safety and Environmental Leadership

Nominees in this category will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • The goals and objectives of the project or initiative and how it related to improving the organisation’s health and safety culture and performance and/or environmental performance.
  • The overall safety of staff, customers, the broader community and/or the environment following the implementation of the project or initiative.
  • The performance of the organisations health, safety or environmental systems as a whole following the implementation of the project or initiative.
  • The key benefits the project or initiative delivered, and did it meet pre-agreed targets and objectives.
  • How the initiative or project differentiates the organisation from its peers in the sector.
  • Specific examples of activities that occurred resulting from the project or initiative.

Award for Excellence in Community Partnership and Engagement

Nominees in this category will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • The motivation for the organisation undertaking the initiative/who initiated it.
  • The links between the community initiative and the organisation’s operating values.
  • Demonstration of staff engagement in the initiative.
  • The goals and objectives of the initiatives, and how the initiative delivered against these goals and initiatives.
  • Demonstration of how the community was involved in the initiative and how this contributed to the goals that the community was trying to achieve
  • Benefits that were delivered to the community.
  • Examples of positive results that emanated from the initiative.
  • Demonstration of how the initiative has changed the organisation’s relationship with community, including strong, positive and enduring relationships.
  • How the initiative differentiates the organisation from its peers in the sector.
  • Demonstration of endorsement from the community that benefited from and /or was involved in the initiative. 

Award for Outstanding Innovation in Oil and Gas

 Nominees in this category will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Demonstration of how the entry is innovative in a technical, scientific, commercial or human nature.
  • How the innovation affected performance delivery, commercial dealings, or engagement with stakeholders (internal or external).
  • How the innovation has differentiated the organisation from its peers.
  • How the innovation has been incorporated into the organisation’s ongoing activities.

Hall of Fame

Nominees will be sought from PEPANZ Members and stakeholders for an individual who has made an outstanding contribution over their career to the New Zealand oil and gas sector.

To be nominated to the Hall of Fame, the nominee should be someone who is (or was):

  • From a PEPANZ Member or closely associated with a PEPANZ Member;
  • A long-serving individual in the upstream petroleum sector;
  • Someone who provided and/or made an outstanding service or contribution to the sector in New Zealand.
